Identify Past Successes
My personal success at work includes learning relationship management. Which means the ability to communicate clearly, maintain good relationships with others, work well in teams, and manage conflict at work. I gained a variety of professional experiences when working as a student. Experiences are valuable. I believe no matter how little or big of an experience it’s still an experience that taught me something. For example, I worked an office job as an assistant and learned that I prefer my work and schedule to be unpredictable from time to time and I prefer to be on the go whether it is meeting new clients/people, building relationships, and traveling with changes in my environment.
I learned a lot about what I don’t want when I started working at a job and I may not have years of experience but I have enough to know what I want.
I am learning how to prioritize while going to school and working at the same time. Before I learned how to prioritize, I would procrastinate all of my tasks which affected my productivity and ability to meet deadlines. I would feel stuck not knowing which tasks to start with but now I am developing the skills of making sure the most important things are done first even if they are less fun.
My personal success during school is when I took a class that interested me but is irrelevant to my career. I consider myself passionate about self-improvement and wanting to create a better quality of life. I love to learn new things and be open-minded to new ideas that allow my creativity to flourish. This action of mine allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and learn about a new industry.
Another one of my personal successes includes volunteering in my community. I help out my community as much as possible because I value giving back to others. Volunteering has allowed me to increase my networking skills by meeting new people from different backgrounds. I gain a new perspective of life whenever I volunteer which helps me grow as a person and in my professional life/career as well.
A common theme between my achievements pertains to my school work and professional experiences, which means I considered the meaning of "personal success" as if it should only be about work and school mainly. I thought to myself that it's what most people consider as personal successes but it's not and it's different for everyone. Sometimes I feel like I'm writing to please others and what others might want to hear rather than focusing on writing about what I actually think and feel. I am working on my ability to express myself as a creative individual which is one of the reasons why I like the thesis project.
Identify core values.
Quality over quantity
Integrity
Transparency
Creativity and fun
Empathetic
Trust and Honesty
Leadership and Serving
Personal Growth
Loyalty
Teamwork
Respectfulness
If I were to choose one value, I would choose respectfulness. It's a word that expresses the kind of person I am. Being respectful does not mean that you're weak in front of people or letting others have their way or showing kindness. Showing respect to someone, not only means that you have manners, but that you understand boundaries and it's the foundation of a society. It determines how we treat people and the relationships we build. To me it just means you're doing your best to be a good human being. I treats others how I want to be treated which is with respect first and foremost.
